This is one of my very favorite all time books. It is ostensibly a children's book, but can also be a source of spiritual inspiration for adults. The illustrations are gorgeous, and the story is powerfully moving. I've read it over and over, and it still brings tears of joy to my eyes at the end. This love story is about the Agape form of love, something children can relate to well. It is told in the context of ancient Egypt, and is an excellent illustration of the concept of reincarnation.
Although there is no mention of this in the book, Joan Grant most likely "remembered" this story from a past life of hers - she's written several other books that are essentially biographies of past lives that she "remembered." Whether you believe in reincarnation or not, you will find her books engaging and inspiring - all her books have wonderful, honorable, loving characters and are spiritual journeys told in the context of fiction. She was a remarkable woman.
