I have been a reader of F. Paul Wilson since I picked up a copy of "The Keep" many years ago. After authoring a number of science fiction and what are sometimes referred to as "horror" books, Wilson picked up the trail that began with "The Keep" with a book titled "The Tomb." This book introduced the character Repairman Jack. Repairman Jack helps people solve problems in their lives. He has also become involved with a supernatural battle between competing cosmic forces. Bloodlines is one of the more recent installments in this series. It takes Jack one step closer to a showdown between the cosmic forces at work in the universe in general and on Earth in particular. Wilson has recently indicated that he will be bringing this cycle to a close in a few more volumes. A number of years ago, he wrote "Nightworld" which involved the showdown between "the Ally" and "the Otherness." Wilson has indicated he will re-write Nightworld to close out what is called "the Adversary Cycle." As Wilson himself notes, he has tried to make each book stand on its own so that a person would not have to have read the prior volumes to pick one up and understand and enjoy it. However, as he gets closer and closer to the end of the cycle it is more and more difficult to do that. Bloodlines certainly starts out in a way that you would not need to know the earlier books. However, much like an old fashioned movie serial, the end does leave you somewhat "on the edge" wondering what will happen next. For Wilson fans, this book and its companions are indispensable. I try to keep up. (He has about one book per year. His next comes out in August or September.) Read it (and the others) and enjoy!
