Wherever possible, a summary of the experimental as well as the clinical data available for the consideration of a given topic has been included, together with references to articles upon which statements are based. As in the earlier edition the chapters upon Physiology and upon Venous Blood-pressure were written by Dr. J. Harold Austin, to whom the author is also indebted for assistance in the preparation of the chapter dealing with the Functional Efficiency of the C irou lation.
