Adolescent goth Sean Randall (Connor Jessup) has just come to the small town of Eastport to live with his hunting-enthusiast father Ricky (Michael Buie) when he strikes up a friendship with pretty and popular classmate Deanna (Alexia East). When Deanna's hot-headed, hockey-playing boyfriend Cory (Craig Arnold) responds by threatening the misfit newcomer, terrified Sean impulsively fires back a suggestive message that results in a police raid of his home, and the discovery of his father's extensive rifle collection. Combined with a presumed "hit list" that's discovered in Sean's possession, authorities draw the conclusion that Sean has been quietly plotting a school massacre, and place him in a youth prison until his trial date. Meanwhile, Sean's lawyer convinces him that the best option for shortening his stay behind bars and avoiding a lengthy trial is to please guilty despite his innocence.
