Bipolar disorder may be caused due to genetic, environmental and neurological triggers. Abnormalities in the function or structure of certain brain circuits, and abnormal action and production of neurotransmitters may result in this disorder. Treatment usually follows a course of medications such as antipsychotics and mood stabilizers, and psychotherapy.
