The fields are well cultivated and the place is neat and thrifty in appearance. Mr. Barkman was married October 4, 1884, to Miss Eliza A. Cregar, who, after a happy married life of about ten years, passed away on the 13th of April, 1894, leaving four children: Urias, born April 18, 1886; Walter, born September 8, 1888; Alice Mabel, born in November, 1891; and Ruth, born in October, 1893. Mr. Barkman is quite prominent in local political circles, stanchly advocates the principles of the Republican party, and has served as a member of the executive committee of the county organization. JACOB L. BUNNELL. The present editor of the New Jersey Herald, published at Newton, is Jacob L. Bunnell, who belongs to one of the pioneer families of Sussex-county. For nearly a century its representatives have resided principally in the several townships bordering on the Delaware river. More than fifty years ago, John, Isaac and Henry, sons of Henry Bunnell, Sr., removed from the homestead farm in Wallpack township and became residents of Blairstown, in the adjoining county of Warren, where they were interested in mercantile, manufacturing and agricultural pursuits. Of the three brothers, but one survives at this writing, John, who at the advanced age of eightyone years is still engaged in active business.
