Like other very good historic novel writers such as George
MacDonald Frazer, the novels historic perspective is as
good as it could be made by someone living in the town where
much of the book takes place. It is certainly well written and
I would expect was written over a fairly long period of time.
But the really outstanding aspect of the novel is its intuitive
insights into the American way of rich people stomping all
over everyone else, the fight that has always been since
Thomas Jefferson lost control to Alexander Hamilton
in the first days of the US of A. A very worthy read that
is as entertaining as it is well written and insightful. I have
already loaned it to one friend , who greatly enjoyed it, and
have a few others waiting in line.
