This volume has several uses: It is a valuable tool in suggesting the possible range of meanings in a given text, especially when the nuances of the original language are not easily conveyed. It allows the reader to select the most accessible translation of any one passage which is invaluable for liturgical and classroom use. The use of parallel texts indicates where a consensus on translation has been reached, and also highlights areas where further research continues, and where reference to commentaries may be appropriate. It allows the reader access to translations other than that which they might normally use. It allows comparison between the literal approach to translation (NRSV and NAB), and the literary style (REB and NJB). The four versions also allow comparison of the most significant ecumenical versions, and those which come initially from a Roman Catholic background.
