Understanding gets us "beyond" our human condition
The title threw me at first; what was this? An Arthur C. Clarke-type outer-space thriller? Well, I couldn't have been further from the truth, because this is a wholly Earth and human centric book, no aliens here-mind you, Griffith does describe us as an "alienated" species, disconnected from our soul as a result of a conflict between it and our intellect. Fortunately he explains that understanding this conflict, this human condition, allows it to end; that we can get "beyond" our human condition and finally live a truly peaceful existence.

Favorite
I know that the author Jeremy Griffith is controversial, and that he has written a number of books after this one, but I am a fan, and this is my favorite. Im not saying don't read the others, but start with this one and see if he is for you, and then move on to his later publications.
