Very inspirational book. My daughter checked it out of the library for me during a time of sickness. I took special interest in the account of Joe Jackson, the USAF pilot who landed his C-123 on a Vietnamese landing strip. I served in Vietnam during this same time, at Cam Ranh Bay, so felt a personal connection to the events described.
I was fortunate to locate Joe Jackson at his home in Washington, send him a copy of the book which he inscribed for me. As well, was able to contact Keith Ferris, artist, who created a reproduction of Joe Jackson and his 123 on the ground, rescuing the airmen who had been left behind; Mr. Ferris provided me with a copy of his recreation of the landing by Jackson on the strip, picking up the last three airmen and successfully saving their lives.
Thanks to Larry Smith, the author, Joe Jackson, Keith Ferris and the other members of this rescue effort. I treasure this book and having been able to communicate with a real hero, Joe Jackson, and receive the beautiful artwork of Keith Ferris depicting the event, which is not publically available.
