This is a well written and well researched story about the people who left behind familiar England to settle the early Virginia "New World" and eventually parts of Northeast North Carolina. One of twelve bools in the "Carolina" series, it takes place in the 1600's with the first part set in England and the remainder in the James River / Tidewater area of Virginia and the Albemarle area of North Carolina. The author ties in historical figures and events with fictional characters and seems to capture well the feel of that time and those places. If you have ever visited the Jamestowne Settlement, Colonial Williamsburg or Roanoke Island and vicinity, you should enjoy this read.
