Bartók's integration of atonality, impressionist harmony and folk song is more thorough in the Violin Sonata No. 2, and the ideas and moods are more unified through his clear and consistent development. While this sonata has its eruptions, they are more plainly inspired by Hungarian dances than by tortured emotions.
