This is a perilous course, but Benedetti succeeds on several counts. Her namesake orchestra is able to follow her along the quite original path she charts. Benedetti might easily have chosen to play some Vivaldi greatest hits, and everyone would have been pleased. Instead, she offers a program with one concerto by Geminiani and three by Vivaldi, plus one movement of a fourth. These are not well-known works, and they seem to have been picked to fit the sound she forges, which bears a relationship to the punchy, dramatic style of contemporary Italian...
