Tras esta fachada impoluta, sin embargo, se ocultan otros temas igualmente interesantes: el conflicto del escritor con su tiempo, su lucha por el reconocimiento y, en especial, su condicion de bufon de una sociedad que nunca llego a considerarlo un verdadero literato. Por todo ello, esta ultima obra de Zweig debe considerarse tambien su obra maestra. Lo que deberia haber sido la recreacion de otro momento estelar de la humanidad, es decir, un retazo de la humanidad misma, se fue convirtiendo igualmente en una descripcion vivida y sentida de la comedia humana, lo cual hace que su lectura invite a acercarse con mas detenimiento a la obra de Balzac.
