The Pointer Sisters and Evelyn "Champagne" King aren't necessarily the best fit for a volume of BMG Special Products' Back to Back, a series that is strikingly similar to EMI/Capitol's fine budget-line series Back 2 Back Hits. Sure, they're musically similar, but the Pointer Sisters had many more hits than King. Consequently, the Pointer Sisters' half is imperfect -- it's nice to have "Fire," "He's So Shy," and "American Music," but why are the minor hit "Could I Be Dreaming" and the album track "What a Surprise" chosen above "Automatic," "Slow Hand," "Jump (For My Love)," "Neutron Dance," or "I'm So Excited"? King's five songs work much better, since her biggest hits -- "Shame," "I Don't Know if It's Right," "Music Box," "I'm in Love," and "Love Come Down" -- are included. It makes for a good sampler of King's work, but the small taste of the Pointer Sisters' hits will certainly leave you wanting more. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
