In his 2018 release on Channel Classics, Ning Feng presents these unaccompanied works on a 1721 Stradivari violin, the "MacMillan," though his use of a modern bow elicits the warm sounds associated with mid-20th century conventions rather than the characteristic sheen and edge of Baroque sonorities. The music is played in a straightforward manner, note for note, with little in the way of embellishment except where notated, so Feng has adopted an approach that is not too far from most modern interpretations.
