While majestic and impressive in sound, the choir takes second place in comparison with the soloists, and seems a bit recessed in the recording. The Yorkshire Baroque Soloists is a small ensemble that provides a distinctive and surprisingly full sound that is glorious in the choruses with trumpets and timpani, but plangent and affecting in the movements that feature strings and double reeds.
