In the winter of 1907-08 I collated a large number of tablets in the Berlin Museum, which I made use of in the list of date-formulas. Unfortunately my time did not allow me to complete this undertaking, nor did I, as was my purpose, have an opportunity to collate the date-formulas on tablets in the British Museum, which undoubtedly would have yielded important results. The manuscript of this volume had been completed and delivered to the Editor in May, 1908; but owing to the fact that not only the writer, but also the Editor and the Committee were absent from Philadelphia during the summer months, the printing could not begin before November, 1908.
