This book is a real delight and if you enjoy a well-paced plot combined with beautiful description and frequent action, then this is for you.
?Awakening? is a highly imaginative novel and has many magical passages which help the reader to enter fully into the very colourful Hyddenworld with its quirky characters and their unusual adventures. It contains elements of fun, sorrow, nail biting passages and pure enjoyment and is of a quality that allows the reader to become totally immersed in the story.
The whole book is well thought-out and, although it?s easy to read, is written at a very high standard. William Horwood uses the English language in a way that I would describe as elegant, with nothing to jar the reader out of the smooth flow of the story.
While I was reading this book I felt that I was enjoying something that is both art and craft. By this I mean that the artistic merits are beyond doubt and the whole thing is very carefully crafted, as though Horwood has gone through each page with the utmost care to ensure that each part of the book is of the highest standard. We already know from his previous books that this author is a storyteller of great capability and this piece of work can only serve to enhance his reputation.
Some of the passages are so beautiful both in concept and execution that I think the author could rightly be described as having a certain genius.
If you like fantasy then you will love this book and I would certainly recommend it without hesitation
