This is essentially a children's book, written perhaps for fourteen year olds. Alibris said nothing whatever that lead me to expect this. Or if they did, I didn't find it, after having read the entry with care. Had they done so, I would not have ordered it. The description is just what I was looking for, but I wanted a scholarly book. Written for adults, to start with. And hopefully with enough reference material -- like footnotes, remember them? -- so one can make an intelligent guess as to whether any author knows what he is talking about., or is just passing off his particular schtick as fact. The new trend in re-printing scholarly books seems to be to leave out any footnotes altogether.
