Black textured paper over boards w/ red title on spine. Corners sharp; a little shelfwear at corners and top and bottom of spine. Textblock is tight, tanned from age; unmarked, except for PO's sig on blank page at front. Illustrated and unclipped DJ ($3.50) has 1" closed tear at bottom of front panel; chipping at top of spine and a little loss at front corners. This is the first USA edition. Printed/pictorial dj; spine and edges lightly toned/dusted, else good. At dawn, Aug 19, 1942, Operation Jubilee was launched: the British landing at Dieppe, France. The raid was disasterous: 6, 000 British troops landed, but less 2, 000 were evacuted. The raid at Dieppe has been rationalized as the testing ground for the Normandy invasion in 1944.
