Most of the others, I think, I havu already sent; but I think it well to go on sending seed T in case of previous packets having failed, or mildewed. The latter is the curse of this country, and nowhere is it a more cruel foe than in collecting plants. The Baron tells me he has collected in these isles upwards of 2000 specimens of all sorts of things (vegetable), and the mildew has destroyed about four-fifths of the whole! This comes home to me with especial force, in attempting to do Miss Bird's behest of collecting ferns for her. In any case the pursuit is to me a novel one, for 1 have always steadily set my face against all manner of dried plants, and vowed 'nothing would ever induce me to have anything to do with such. Good with no dust jacket. A clean, sound copy of the second edition, described as being complete in one volume. It is not richly illustrated, but all four illustrations are present, plus a pull-out map at the back. The pages are age-toned but not brittle. There is a little staining and foxing to the first few pages, but not the bulk of the text. The pictorial boards are sound and clean, with fading to the spine, but not much wear at all to the binding. The corners are lightly bumped.
