Beide Geschichten spielen im sp???ten 19. Jahrhundert. Die genannten Werke verurteilen auf ihre eigene Art und Weise die Rolle, die zu dieser Zeit der Frau zugesprochen wird. Obgleich sowohl die Technik als auch der Inhalt der B???cher verschieden sind, und vielleicht gerade deswegen, bietet sich der Vergleich von Fr???ulein Else mit Madame Bovary an. Denn trotz aller Unterschiede, die zwischen den beiden Erz???hlungen bestehen, gibt es doch eine gemeinsame Basis. Da Fr???ulein Else erst 1924 zum ersten Mal gedruckt wird, w???hrend Madame Bovary schon 1856 in einer Zeitschrift erscheint, kann man Schnitzlers Erz???hlung als eine Weiterentwicklung des psychologischen Schreibens sehen, welches mit Madame Bovary einen Anfang findet. Auch wenn man nicht mit Sicherheit behaupten kann, dass Schnitzler Madame Bovary gelesen hat, so kann man doch mit ziemlicher Gewissheit annehmen, dass Schnitzler ???ber dieses umstrittene Werk informiert war und sich auch auf seine Weise damit auseinandergesetzt hat. Man kann auch annehmen, dass dieser psychologische Roman, oder zumindest die Reaktionen darauf, einen gewissen Einfluss auf seine, im inneren Monolog geschriebene, Fr???ulein Else hat.
