Western art, specifically the Roman and Gothic art of the middle ages. The original was published in 1938, and this is the second edition. Much of the book is on architecture, especially cathedrals of Europe, but Focillon also delves into sculpture and painting and covers Sluter and Van Eyck specifically. Excellent images of exteriors and interiors of architectural venues. Floor plans included.
