This is the debut release of soprano Natalya Romaniw, born in Wales but with a background that suits her well to this material. There is not quite a "voyage of a Slavic soul" here, although the album was inspired by and dedicated to the memory of Romaniw's Ukrainian grandfather. The title comes from a song by Rachmaninov about a shipwreck survivor, and most of the music does strike a nice balance between the personal-psychological and the general.
