Excerpt from the book: The fixed usage of centuries compels us thus to translate the title he claimed; but it were better rendered 'Apostle', so that foreknowledge and foretelling which, in our common parlance, attach to prophecy might be relegated to a secondary place. At the same time, the physical conditions have imposed, with equal dominance, political disunion.Large areas remain veiled during long periods, while small areas are revealed for short periods by deceptive lights.A few Meccan Muslimin went with him.Their community has resulted, in the main, from a simple uniformity of physical conditions. The historian, however, finds this compensation: Arab society has changed so little within the known period that he may venture to infer its prehistoric from its historic condition with better assurance than elsewhere. About the Author David George Hogarth was a British archaeologist and scholar associated with T. E. Lawrence and Arthur Evans. He was Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford from 1909 to 1927. This historical work has been digitally restored using the latest technology, making it available in digital and printed form. The original is painstakingly manually restored, leaving fresh, easy-to-read literature in modern fonts whilst keeping the author's intent in place wherever possible. This also enables Kindle versions to use the technology available such as Text-to-Speech, as our books are not simply printed PDFs.

Seller's Description:
None. Near Fine in Fair jacket. An early history of Arabia by D. G. Hogarth, a lovely first edition from the library of Edward Henderson. The first edition of this early history of Arabia, from ancient times to the end of the Ottoman era, with chapters on the institution of Islam, the Arabian Caliphate, Sherifates, and details on the Turkish domination and fall. By D. G. Hogarth, British archaeologist and scholar often associated with T. E. Lawrence and Arthur Evans. In the extremely rare, though poor, unclipped dust wrapper. The present copy was acquired from the sale from the personal library of Edward Henderson, British diplomat and Ambassador to Qatar, a prominent figure in the Persian Gulf region. Â Illustrated with a large folding map to the rear. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The dust wrapper is unclipped and rather worn, with the rear wrap detached from the rear joint and some loss to the head of the spine, the missing spine loose but present. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are clean with only a touch of age toning, as usual due to the type of paper used. Illustrated with a large folding map to the rear. Collated, complete. Near Fine.
