The teacher should post the material in a pleasing way on the reference board. Careless and unbalanced arrangement is sure to create a similar impression upon the students in their own arrangement. BRUSH DRILLS. Practice with the brush should be continued by the students until they can produce good light and heavy lines in clear, confident strokes. Brush drills showing continuous connecting curved lines in a designed form create rhythmic brush rendering, and other patterns and strokes can be developed to create facility with the brush. The making of a long stem with increasing thickness toward the bottom, and a series of radiating leaves made with single brush strokes, gives the combination drill in the use of the finest line with the heaviest strokes the brush will produce. USE-OF PASTE. If a table or a desk can be arranged for students to do large pasting upon, it will prevent waste of paste and the possibility of students' having paste on their own desks and thus soiling other work. The paste in ttubes is the best form for individual use, since just what is needed is used, and the screw top is placed back when the paste is not in use. Have the students learn to use the paste tube correctly. It should be pressed from the bottom, not near the top. As it is emptied at the bottom, the bottom can be rolled up. Where a straight edge of paste surface is needed, if a straight strip of thin paper is laid down along the edge to which the paste is to come, when the paste is brushed, the strip will take the surplus paste.
