The follow-up to the Jasmine collection Cowboy Country Crosby Style, Another Ride in Cowboy Country compiles 22 more tracks from the Hollywood cowboy, including songs of the trail from unlikely cowpokes (Johnny Mercer, Sammy Fain, Livingston & Evans, Vaughn DeLeath) as well as a few with more ties to the genre (Gene Autry, Ernest Tubb, Bob Nolan, Floyd Tillman). With the exception of only a few titles, none of these were hits, leaving the great majority as either intriguing covers (a few) or slightly bland titles lifted from Hollywood westerns (many more). In the former camp are Bing's versions of early honky tonk standards like Tubb's "Walking the Floor Over You," Al Dexter's "Pistol Packin' Mama" (one of the big hits), Tillman's "It Makes No Difference Now," and the Bob Wills classic "San Antonio Rose" (the last two recorded with brother Bob's Bobcats). Almost as fun as the first, especially for fans of Crosby's steady, laid-back-in-the-saddle approach to country & western. ~ John Bush, Rovi
