This book was written while Annie Besant was still alive. However, this biography it does take the reader right through to all the major events in her life. Geoffrey West wrote a balanced account of the life of this remarkable woman. He was not blind to her shortcoming but also gives praise where due. The last chapter is his summing up of her life and with the hindsight available to us more than 80 years on, West seems to have predicted her place in history. It is not a long book and if one is interested in the life of this amazing lady or wants to capture the social history of England and India at the turn of the 20th century, then this book is well worth the read.
