This volume has been re-issued. Unfortunately, the newer publication simply copies THIS volume, at about 50% the original size. You need a magnifying glass to read the Hebrew. The large format of this first edition is visually superior to the current format.
And the better one can see the information, the easier it is to study and learn.
The actual text is VERY similar to that in HA-YESOD: Fundamentals of Hebrew, Uveeler & Bronznick. Had I known, I might have tried to get by in the class without buying yet another volume.
But this one was the required text. It's as good as any I've seen (I have come to the conclusion that there is no way to make learning Hebrew as easy as, say, installing a new ice-maker in the freezer.) It is thorough, and logically arranged.
If this book had made it happen magically, somehow, I'd have given it a full five stars...

Helpful
Lambdin chunks up the concepts so it's slow enough to absorb. However, I wouldn't want to learn Hebrew alone with just this book. It would be better if you combined it with Basics of Biblical Hebrew or something else that gives you the bigger picture. I've heard that Seow's book is based on Lambdin's so he's probably improved it. I'd check that out too.

Fine Systematic Text
This is a fine approach to the deductive method of learning Hebrew. Very thorough, full of paradigm charts. I had used Biblical Hebrew Step by Step Vols. 1 and a bit of Vol. 2 and it was very inductive (giving only one paradigm chart for ALL perfect tense verbs (even hollow and lamed-nun)!!! Now I am going through this book (it has taken me about a month and an half to get half way through). Lambdin gives all the details. For instance, lessons two, three, and four cover ALL the details of the usage of the definite article (hey-). Excellent text for late teens through adulthood beginners.
