An Eastern Western Collected Works is comprised of nine recordings made during late 1997. Though Shea uses his sampler throughout, much of the source material comes from his own projects, including the sessions for that same year's Satyricon, as well as a composition intended for the Ictus Ensemble of Brussels and several projects wherein he samples a musician then performs a live duet with the same person. Shea invokes the experiments of chance procedures on these duets, with trumpeter Dave Douglas and percussionist Jim Pugliese.
