Edges and sides of boards stamped with rolled gilt design; gilt lettering and designs stamped to spine with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled to match. One tinted plate and a folding map with the route outlined in red. Previous owner's notation to the title page. A very good, tight and clean copy. AB 5919. Narrative of a voyage, undertaken in 1849, in search of the author's brother Harry, surgeon on the missing Franklin expedition, based on extracts from a rough journal. With whaling Captain Penny onboard the 'Advice' they searched Lancaster Sound and give a good description of the region, ice conditions, the birds observed, and whaling processes, etc. Goodsir would also accompany Penny on his second search attempt aboard the 'Lady Franklin'. A very scarce title.
