8vo, pp. 80. Removed from a nonce volume. VG. Until the election of 1842 the state had been operating under the charter granted by Charles II in 1663. Earlier in 1842 a group of citizens had met and drafted the "People"s Constitution, " shortly thereafter the legistature met and created the "Freeman"s Constitution." The populace selected the "People"s Constitution" but the State Supreme Court and President Tyler refused to recognize it. After various meetings an amended "Freeman"s Constitution" was selected and recognized.
