Ancient Proverb. On a former occasion I narrated my first visit to the Ruahine mountains, in which, after much toil, I succeeded in gaining the summit, although I failed in crossing the range. I should not now greatly care to say anything more about it, but for three reasons: --(1) To note particularly the localities of the peculiar Botany of the interior, --then, for the first time found, and not since, I believe, detected;--(2) To leave on record some mention of the difficulties of travelling in New Zealand in those earlier days, before there were either roads or horses, and when even " At the close, Dr. Speneer proposed, and Mr. J. A. Smith seconded, a unanimous vote of thanks to Mr. Colenso for his very interesting Paper, which was also earnestly supported by the Rt. Rev.
