Well............ I must have really liked this book because I've read it 4 times in the last year. I guess I really just liked Alice. I've always wondered why people got themselves in to such destructive relationships and this book gives us all insights into that world. Alice is the product of various foster homes, and while I don't agree with her that there aren't any good ones I have to admit she is very likely the norm.
Her relationship with Jack is very unexpected and as he leads her further and further astray you keep hoping things will get better. And while Jack is charming and handsome, he is also controlling and a very bad influence on her. (So who doesn't love a bad boy?...... ) Altho the sex is quite explicit it is very well done. Each time she meets with Jack he is able to draw her a little deeper and it becomes easy to understand how a young girl could lose herself. While I would not recommend it to most teen agers because of the sexual content, I feel this is a book well worth the reading. I don't think it's even meant for teenagers. Alice does find and resolve the most troubling issue along the way and I have great hopes for her at the close. As a former Book dealer I tend to judge a book when I put it down at the end. Is it a keeper? Would I read it again? Would I recommend it? Was I content with the ending?
Yes. Yes. Yes. and Yes!
