The chapters are organized yet easy to understand with minimal clinical jargon. There's also "stories" or vignettes of examples from people who have had varied challenges in order to better apply the new knowledge to a situation that could be faced in field or in practice. I read all 13 Chapters in 2 weeks while on a business trip so this book is reader-friendly and educational regarding facing problems head on, while seeing the person having difficulties with AOD issues as that - a person who is struggling. As an MSW student and former mental/behavioral health case manager (PSCII) in Indiana and California, I find that many of the "stories" are real-life, not hypothetical so this allows the student to realize that AOD spans beyond traditional theoretical approaches, the individual, & seeing the problem as the problem. Different age groups, races, spiritualities and cultures were discussed since those areas are important to consider, as well as impact on family dynamics and community systems.
