Excerpt from Acts and Proceedings of the Synod of the Potomac: Of the Reformed Church in the United States at Mechanicsburg, Pa;, October 11th, 1887 While we are progressing, which we are glad to say, yet are we progressing as we should, are we keeping pace with the demand of the age, as fast as the population and world are in our midst? The world is growing in numbers, sin is growing in power, should not the church grow in measure to meet these new demands While it is our aim to gather in the children of the church, and our own people who by right belong to us yet we as a branch of the Church Catholic have a higher mission in trying to bring every soul to the feet of Jesus, that the kingdom of Christ may be established in the whole earth, and the world prepared for the coming of our Lord. Within the past year many of our faithful workers in our church have ceased their labors, and have been called to their reward, and among them are some of our faithful elders, and three of our ministers, Revs. J. D. Zehring, M. L. Hittel and G. H. Martin, D.D whose deaths will be properly noticed by another committee. These fresh graves of the year remind us of the time when we too, one by one, shall fall in the ranks of our Master's service.
