London 1891 first edition. Cassell. Translated by C. B. Pitman. 2 volume set complete. Hardcovers. Large octavos, 218pp., 230pp., with illustrations from photographs taken by Prince Henry of Orleans, and a map of the route, original cloth. Map is in VG+ condition with no wear except tiny tear in margin where joined to volumes. A few private library blind stamps in text. Large folding map is complete with no chips No other library markings except faint circular indications on spines labels were once attached. Good plus, light wear and soiling on cover. Very slight even toning of text. Hinges are not cracked in or out. Cover picture shows 5 men depicted in brown color sitting around a campfire with giilt smoke rising from the campfire. Only slight cover wear. This 1891 edition is the true first edition. no dj. Pictures provided upon request. Two volume set.

VG. 2 vols. 8vo. 1/2 leather backed cloth boards gilt with raised bands and marbled leaf edges (ex-NSW State Parliamentary Library, with gilt stamps on upper boards & occ. rsms to prelims. & reverse of folding map. Binding is a bit rubbed along edges & extremities. Text is generally very clean, though there is some spotting to endpapers and occ. elsewhere, most noticeably to the tissue-guarded frontispiece and title page in volume 1); pp. xii, 218, with 50 illustrations & a folding map; viii, 224, with 59 illustrations. Heavy item (2.5 kg), additional postage may be required for international delivery. A very good copy.
