Estudos demonstraram que este grupo tem geralmente os n???veis mais elevados de infec??????es sexualmente transmiss???veis, o maior n???mero de gravidezes indesejadas, por vezes terminando em abortos clandestinos ou inseguros ou sem contracep??????o (Curi et al 2001) e parcerias sexuais m???ltiplas. Atrav???s da contracep??????o, o planeamento familiar contribui significativamente para a redu??????o da mortalidade materna, neonatal e infantil; para a melhoria do bem-estar familiar e para a preven??????o de gravidezes indesejadas (UNFPA et al., 2013). Apesar dos muitos esfor???os feitos, da efic???cia comprovada e do fornecimento dispon???vel, o uso de contraceptivos ainda ??? baixo, especialmente nos pa???ses africanos.
