We will now deal with those which demand more time, but admit of a much wider circuit being taken. b) Excursion for one day. With such tours it is not easy to preserve a golden mean, which suits different tastes and capabilities. The most that can be done is to endeavour to keep to a limit of 5--7 hours walking, inclusive of rests, such as is not beyond the powers of the less hardened pedestrians. Much must be left to the personal taste and initiative of the tourist, who, if he will, may combine and diversify the following and preceding excursions to an almost indefinite extent, according to the time at his disposal. It may be added that some of the tours enumerated below can only be performed in a single day by making use of the excursion trains which run during the summer months on Sundays and holidays. These will be indicated in every case. North and North-West. 1. Langenzersdorf, Bisamberg, Korneuburg and Kreuzenstein. To Langenzersdorf from Vienna via North-Western Railway. Langenzersdorf is a straggling village situated between the Danube and the Bisamberg. From the HauptstraBe, behind the church, two routes (red and blue) lead up to the summit of the Bisamberg (1170 ft.) in about 1 hour. The view is very extensive. To the south one looks across the Danube to Vienna and the Wienerwald; westwards are the valley of the Danube and the Kahlenberg group; north are Korneuburg, Stockerau and the mountains on the confines of Moravia; and east is the broad plain of the Marchfeld where, close to the Bisamberg, the battles of Aspern and Wagram were fought in 1809.
