I listen to NPR and bought this book on Nancy Pearl's recommendation. I'm sorry I did. I don't see why she loves this book so much. The main character is a despicable person, which he admits, but he had every resource to improve himself and did not. Reading it was like watching a terrible car crash. It is much too long, and the deeper themes the book addressed did not make it worth the time spent with it.
