Caroline Stark's idyllic life falls apart when she finds out that her husband Jason has been unfaithful to her. He disappears with the woman she suspects him of having an affair with and all their savings. In revenge, Caroline gets involved with bad boy Aidan - is one stalking the other, or is this a real relationship? And is everything what it seems? We are told the story through lots of different perspectives so that we never know quite who to believe and keep changing our minds. The result is a completely unpredictable story that really does keep you reading till the end. I really enjoyed it; the plush holiday resort setting gave it an escapist element (and contrast to the nightmare scenario). Well worth reading for lots of twists and turns.

No better than the average thriller
A Stranger on the Beach is a psychological thriller that centres around two main characters, a wealthy woman named Caroline Stark and an ex-convict turned bartender called Aidan Callahan. The story is largely told through an alternating narrative from the points of view of both Caroline and Aidan. However, neither characters felt likeable and their differing accounts of certain events left me feeling frustrated rather than engaged. The story felt a bit long-winded at times, particularly towards the end, when there were too many theories as to what had happened and who had done what. The ending was unpredictable but not particularly impacting or memorable, leaving me to conclude that this book was no better than the average thriller.
