This Is A Book That Bears Rereading!
I ordered this book from Alibris.com, thinking that it would hopefully be a shortcut way to catch up on the World History I didn't take in H.S. (or Junior College), BUT THIS BOOK IS FAR AND AWAY SO MUCH MORE THAN I EXPECTED. This author really understands what world history is all about - the struggle to survive, not the call to wars or the thirst for power, and this is what he so all-encompassingly focuses on - the human struggle to survive, and the human struggle to create and make some sense out of life. He covers topics such as weather patterns and how they possibly affected crops, how crops were harvested and stored, some basic day-to-day history of the Egyptians and Jews, why Europeans wanted so much to find an easy route to India & China, some history of the middle East, North Africa & Mohammed, history covering ancient China, Japan, Korea and the Indonesian archipelago and Australia - and how they were connected (!), history of Christianity from Jerusalem to Rome to England to the Americas, and the chapter explaining the difference in the starting points of WWII between Europe and Asia just blew my mind! This is stuff that even my 90-year-old grandfather didn't know about! So ORDER this book! It is absolutely amazing!
