He was a merchant and owned a distillery near the southern corner of Front and Washington Streets. He owned and lived in the brick house on Washington Street, where Dr. John E. Fiske afterwards lived. Here he entertained General Washington, when he visited Salem in 1789. His first wife was Sarah Lander, mother of his children. His second wife was Susan McGee of Boston."--E.
