Seller's Description:
Very Good. First edition. Dark blue and black patterned cloth, spine lettered in gilt. 256 pp. Qute scarce. Fictionalized bigraphy of 16th century French alchemist and occultist Denis (Denys) Zachaire and his seach for the Philosopher's Stone and the Elixir of Life. The book received positive, if limited, reviews when it was published and at least one occultist journal of the time claimed that the body of the work was actually the autobiographical account written by Zachaire himself and romanticized and expanded by Ross. A tight, very good example, gilt lettering bright, bit of wear at the foot of the spine and very top of gutter. Presentation bookplate to a medical society on the front pastedown with the corresponding owner's handwritten name and srtamped address on the verso of the front flyleaf.
