Reading opens up the world. It lets a person peer into the lives of others who are as unlike ourselves as if they were another species. Even a person with a bonafide heart as hard as a potato would be moved by this story of family, loss, near redemption, and postponed love. It makes a person believe in the power of love, positive thinking, and staying the course, rooting for the underdog, fighting the bully, and exposing the cowards. The book is written with such tenderness, laugh out loud humor, and clear eyed patience that it is a world unto itself. Anyone would love to meet Roan and Claire. They are as magical as the land the story is set in. I have become fairly certain that they are walking around somewhere very much alive and...well, you read it and find out.
