This novel takes the supernatural and spiritual dimensions of the Mormon story seriously and works with the thesis that such events truly transpired. However, it doesn't paint a sanitized, Sunday school version of its historical figures, but meets them in their all too human faults and controversies, recognizing that they were complex and compelling human beings.
