Joan Germann Lewis has seized a very special period in her life and used literature and and to create this unique book. A Nature Journal featuring her words, color illustrations, and some of her husband Bernie's poetry, depicts a month-by-month account of flora and fauna in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. The journal identifies over 100 wildflowers as well as numerous birds, mushrooms, fungi, butterflies, spiders, insects, frogs, fish, snakes, animals, plants, trees, lichens, and much more. A pond, stream, swamp, meadows, lawns, woodlands, and a large vegetable garden on a 25-acre farm provided the setting for this remarkable work. Joan's book was inspired by Edith Holden's The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady given to her by Dr. and Mrs. Paul Dufton of England. Her sister and brother-in-law gifted her beautiful leather notebooks with blank pages to fill, and the project took flight. The project was 14 years in the making. A Nature Journal makes a great gift book and could certainly be used as a field guide. A useful index of flora and fauna is also included.
