In 1690, King William III initiated a policy in which he granted a bounty of twenty pounds to each minister and schoolmaster of the Church of England going to serve in the Western Colonies in America. In this work, the author, Gerald Fothergill, has compiled a list of approximately 1,200 ministers and schoolmasters who served during the period 1690 to 1811. The materials and information for this list were obtained from British classes of records known as Money Books, King's Warrant Books, Treasury Papers, and Exchequer of Receipt Papers, all now preserved in the Public Record Office. Here, the ministers are arranged alphabetically with the name of the colony in which they resided, the date of emigration, and the source from which the information was derived.
