This is loosely based on the life of a 17th Century Dutch female artist, Judith Leyster. However, very little seems to be known about her actual life, and I get the impression that the author also doesn't know much about 17th Century Holland and its artists. Unfortunately, the result is a collection of short, speculative anecdotes, with little in the way of narrative, plot, or character development.
